RAMON ALLONES CIGAR HISTORY
There actually was a Ramon Allones, who developed theseCuban cigars brand way back in 1837. Originally from Spain, Allones (owner of the La Eminencia cigar factory) was reportedly the first to employ bright, lithographed labels on his cigar boxes, to help set his Cuban cigar brand apart. Prior to nationalization, this lighter-bodied Cuban cigar brand was owned by Cifuentes, Pego y Cia., also the owners of Partagas.
Ramon Allones is one of the earliest Cuban cigar trademarks, registered in 1845 by another Spanish emigrant, Don Ramon Allones, born in Galicia. Allones started to elaborate these Cuban cigars at 129 Animas Street in Havana, Cuba. Ramon Alones is considered an innovator tobacconist, because he was the first in using decoration of the boxes' interior. Those colorful designs are part of the artistic patrimony and are appreciated by cigar collectors.
Allones also introduced the 8-9-8 format where his cigarettes are displayed in three rows (of eight, nine and eight units each). He also was the first one who introduced the 25 cigar boxes with their several dimensions; at the moment, these cedar containers are irreplaceable in the Cuban tobacco trading.
In 1920 the Ramon Allones cigar trademark was acquired by the Partagás proprietors, the Cifuentes family.
Ramon Allones cigars are strong and have strong savoriness. Nowadays all vitolas are still handmade in the Partagás factory. Although these Cuban cigars follow the Partagás standards and formats to a great extent, Ramon Allones cigars have less strength.
The origin of Ramon Allones tobacco is in Vuelta Abajo (Pinar del Río). Ramon Allones cigars are basically commercialized in Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Great Britain, the Far East, Africa and the Middle East.
