Cigar Review The Hoyo de Monterrey Epicures Especiales is widely considered the finest amonst the Hoyo de Monterrey cigar line and a favorite Cuban cigars for lots of aficionados for the price. Its a medium bodied Cuban cigar. The Hoyo Epicure is in general a very nice looking Cuban cigar with a beautiful dark brown wrapper and carries the double band like the Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No.2. The wrapper smells of spice and earth, pre-draw was herbacious and earthy. The smoke starts out spicy, with woody underdones and hints of eart and mushrooms and the aftertaste is herby. After the first third, notes of cocoa and spice appear and earthy tones keep coming up. It makes for a great Cuban cigar.

Hoyo de Monterrey was established by Jose Gener in 1865, the name roughly means "valley of Monterrey," a particularly fertile site in the Vuelta Abajo, which had been farmed by Gener since at least 1860. This Cuban cigar brand offers a lighter flavour and a wide range of sizes, the largest of which are much celebrated.
