Cigar Review The Hoyo de Monterrey Petit Robustos come in slide-lid boxes of 25 Cigars. This fine Cuban cigar is mild and earthy, but some hints of ammonia might be found if it hasn't aged enough, so try to find a box code of a few years ago. The Hoyo Petit Robusto starts with typical pepper taste but soon changes into cocoa and chocolate notes with only a little spice. The second part is more woody and earty with hints of cedar which go well into the third part of this Cuban cigar. The finish is greatly flavored and makes you want to keep smoking another.

Hoyo de Monterrey was established by Jose Gener in 1865, the name roughly means "valley of Monterrey," a particularly fertile site in the Vuelta Abajo, which had been farmed by Gener since at least 1860.
